Group read has been on hiatus these past few months, but we're hoping to
resurrect it soon!

We'll
be announcing April's challenge in the very near future...

In
an effort to increase the number of author hosted websites available,
Firthness is sponsoring a contest for JA websites! If you want to
enter, it's simple. One submit your website address to: duckie@firthness.com,
or two create your website, then submit your website address to: duckie@firthness.com
- the winner will receive a banner, naming it as a Firthness Site of the
Month, and be advertised both on Darcyfic and listed as a featured
site for the following month. All submissions will be listed
on the Firthness links page. Winners will be decided (by the
firthness administrative committee) based on the aesthetics of the site
- so make it look purdy! And
we're here to help you make your site! Below you'll find a list of
free web providers. Several offer their own web building tools -
which means you don't have to know any HTML. Once you sign
up for hosting, feel free to stop by the firthness
forums - we've created a forum just for helping those of you who
want to create sites - and you don't have to enter the contest to ask
your questions! If you'd like to make your site using HTML (and
it's a v. handy thing to know!) visit the firthness
links page - we offer links their for creating web sites - we'd
be happy to help you with HTML in the forums, too. ;) Submissions
for April's Site of the Month are due in March 31st, so get to work
if you want to play!

Geocities While
I'm not a big Yahoo fan, I have to say that Geocities offers the best free site
for web novices. They'll give you 15 MB of web space and a free WYSIWYG
editor - What You See is What You Get - Page Builder. You don't need to
know a lick of HTML to make a nice looking site. They also offer quite a few
neat add-ons. Plus, while they do place ads on your page - they're not
pop-ups. All you have to do to receive your free web space is sign up for
a Yahoo!ID. And if you already have a Yahoo!ID, then you're web space is waiting
for you! Tripod Tripod
has merged with Lycos and now they offer their own WYSIWYG editor. No HTML
necessary. And they've put up a tutorial for using their editor. They've
also recently been named a C/Net Editor's Choice. If memory serves me
correctly, they offer 25 MB of space (if anyone knows otherwise, let the duckie
know!) Your visitors have to contend with pop-ups, but it seems as though
they've added quite a few new, fun features. Fortune
City Another
popular provider that offers a WYSIWYG editor. While they don't say how much
space they do offer for their free sites, they do give you an FTP account,
should you choose to make your site with HTML. Pop-ups come with this
deal. Freeservers This
provider offers 12 MB of site space, but no WYSIWYG editor - HTML and FTP
knowledge necessary. They do, however, offer a semi-personalized web addy
for free: yourdomain.freeservers.com - you'll have to contend with
pop-ups, though. Pro-Hosting Their
premium services are not a bargain, but their free sites give you 50 MB of
space! No WYSIWYG editor, but they do offer a free FTP account.
